What to Remember After an Automobile Accident?

Back to Video Gallery
Transcript

If you are involved in an automobile accident, the first thing I think that is important to do is to make sure everybody gets themselves to a safe location. After that, the police should be called and an accident report should be prepared, documenting each vehicle that was involved in the accident and their liability insurance company, the names and addresses of the drivers and their respective liability insurance carriers. This information will be essential for any lawsuit that is going to be brought as a result of the accident.

Do not admit fault for the accident to the opposing driver. If possible to do so safely, it’s a good idea to take some photographs of the vehicles involved in the accident, documenting their positions and the property damage that was suffered to these vehicles so that the damage that was sustained to the vehicles can be documented for the file in the future.

Anybody’s medical need should be attended to by EMS and you should contact an attorney as soon as reasonably possible as various forms must be filed for no-fault benefits and to preserve any rights you may have to bring an uninsured or underinsured motorist claim against your own liability insurance company.
